By Adewunmi Adenekan Suspended Governor of the Central Bank (CBN), Godwin Emefiele risks another arrest as Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja threatens to issue a warrant of arrest over his failure to appear in court to explain the circumstances surrounding the $53 million judgment debt arising from the Paris Club refund. Justice Ekwo, who ordered Emefiele to appear on the next adjourned date, said he was minded to exercise restraint in the proceeding to give the suspended CBN boss an opportunity to explain himself. The development occurred following an intervention by the counsel to Emefiele, Audu Anuga, who prayed for the court to give his client another opportunity, because they had been unable to reach him since the last order, directing him to appear in court. Covid-19 Vaccine: Nigeria receives over $9m grant from Canadian govt

The grant came as the federal government reported that, while it had made substantial progress in its vaccination efforts, numerous states had primary series coverage of less than 70%, with booster doses accounting for little more than 20% of vaccinations. To mitigate this, it explained that the fund targeted states with poor performance and attempted to reach high-priority populations. The grant was announced by Jamie Chrisoff, the Canadian High Commissioner to Nigeria, during the launch of the Canada Global Initiative for Vaccine Equity, CanGIVE Grant, in Abuja by the Federal Ministry of Health in conjunction with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, NPHCDA. Reports indicate that about 300 people have died in the recent attacks.
