Controversy Over Sanwo-Olu’s WAEC Certificate As Adediran Claims The Result Is Fake
Lagos State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), candidate in the last governorship election Olajide Adediran, has described as falsehood the insinuation that West African Examination Council (WAEC) tendered Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s certificate at governorship election petition tribunal to clear the air on the allegation that he (Sanwo-Olu) presented a fake WAEC result to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
A statement, yesterday, by the Head, Media, and Communications of the campaign organization, Gbenga Ogunleye, said the deliberate falsehood was to hoodwink the public and cover up the allegation leveled against the governor for allegedly presenting a fake WAEC statement of result to INEC.
He said: “It is important to note that a representative of WAEC, subpoenaed by the tribunal to tender, under oath, the certificate of Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, stated clearly that WAEC is unable to present it.
“Though he presented a purported master list that showed that the result has been hurriedly uploaded by WAEC, unfortunately for Sanwo-Olu, the names on the new result uploaded were different from what was on the Ijebu-Ife Community Grammar School’s statement of results he submitted for the 2019 elections.”
“The name on the uploaded result is Sanwo-Olu Olusola Babajide, while the one issued by the school in Ijebu-Ife where he claimed to have sat for the examination is Sanwo-Olu Babajide; the same year, same examination diet, but different names.
“Under cross-examination, the WAEC witness affirmed that a discrepancy in names suggests that such results do not belong to the same person.”
“It would be recalled that the candidate of the PDP, Dr. Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran (JANDOR) had earlier challenged the integrity of the sudden upload of the 1981 WAEC result after it had been revealed on that portal to be a fake.
“Meanwhile, the tribunal has issued another subpoena to WAEC to submit its result verification back-end server and other information technology infrastructure for forensic analysis in the presence of the court and all parties.
“We enjoin the good people of Lagos state to ignore the spreading falsehood and continue to demand transparency and justice in the ongoing election petitions tribunal in the state.”
