FIFA Ranking: Nigeria Moves Up To 39th, Argentina Remains Top

In a recent release of the FIFA ranking, Nigeria's senior men's national football team, the Super Eagles, moved up one spot from the 40th position to 39th on Thursday.

This advancement was driven by their impressive performance and victory against Sierra Leone in their latest international fixture.

The Super Eagles' 3-2 win over Sierra Leone not only solidified their dominance on the field but also secured their qualification for the highly anticipated TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, set to take place in Ivory Coast in 2024. This single game played a vital role in boosting Nigeria's ranking.

The improved ranking now places the Super Eagles ahead of renowned African football teams such as Ghana's Black Stars, Cote D'Ivoire's Elephants, and Cameroon's Indomitable Lions.

Maintaining their position among Africa's top six teams is a remarkable achievement for the Super Eagles.

This accomplishment ensures their inclusion as top seeds in the upcoming AFCON draw, scheduled later this year. By securing a place among the top-ranked teams, Nigeria increases its chances of a favorable draw and a strong start in the tournament.

Looking at the broader global rankings, Argentina continues to hold its position as the number one ranked nation. Following closely behind are football powerhouses such as France, Brazil, England, and Belgium.
