South Africa: Teenager Shot By Stray Bullet While Playing In Yard

A 14-year-old South African girl was shot by a stray bullet on Friday, June 23, 2023, while playing with her friend at her residence.

Following the shooting of the Durban teen while she was playing in her yard, police are reportedly looking into the case of the attempted murder.

Around 5.30 pm on Friday, the incident happened on Ajmer Road in Merebank, which is south of Durban.

According to provincial police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo, the 14-year-old was allegedly playing with a friend at her home on Ajmer Road when she was shot.

“The victim was taken to the hospital for further care and the matter is under investigation by Wentworth SAPS,” Ngcobo said.

An incident report states that the victim was shot in the leg.

It is claimed that the teenager was shot by a stray bullet and that witnesses heard several shots being fired.
