DMW First Lady Liya Confirms Departure From Record Label

By Adewunmi Adenekan

Nigerian singer and songwriter Liya has officially confirmed her departure from the Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) record label.

In a recent Q&A session with fans on her Instagram story, a curious fan asked if she was still associated with DMW.

Liya responded with a simple 'Nopee’, indicating that she is no longer part of the DMW label.

However, she assured her fans that she remains loyal to the 30 Billion Gang (30BG), which is Davido’s fanbase and a prominent affiliation in the Nigerian music industry.

In 2020, she was introduced to the public through Davido’s tweet, 5 hours after their meeting in the club through Peruzzi.

On September 14, 2021, in an interview with OkayAfrica, Liya said, “I played Davido a couple of my songs, including ‘Melo’ and he was hooked, then he asked me and my manager to travel with him the next day to Abuja.

“During our trip, he started saying ‘first lady way’, then took it to Twitter.”

On October 2, 2020, Davido officially welcomed Liya as the first female artiste under his prestigious Davido Music Worldwide imprint.
